Mavro is named for the high gloss, black finish and the black, two-tier granite base of this sculpture. Mavro means black in Greek. The wood is red gum, a member of the Eucalyptus family and is native to Australia.
The spiral arm sits on a small stainless steel ball bearing and revolves around the static, lower portion. The lower portion resembles a treble or G clef found at the beginning of a musical staff.
